10 Common Mistakes to Avoid on Your Blog

When you start on the blogosphere and even with seniority, it is possible to neglect or forget certain points which are nevertheless very important for the good development of your blog. Today I offer you a list of 10 small errors that I see quite often but which are very easily corrected.

1. FORGET TO SUGGEST A SEARCH BAR

On a blog or even on a website, a search bar is essential! It's the best way for your reader to quickly and easily find what they're looking for. In addition, this allows your old articles not to be forgotten and to be able to be found if necessary. It is placed either at the top of the blog or in the sidebar.

2. OVERLOAD YOUR DESIGN

Sometimes, when we want to personalize our blog and make it truly reflect our image, we do too much . Be sure to add your personal touch but in a subtle and pretty way . Choose a maximum of 3 colors and 3 fonts , although I would advise you to start with 2 . A nice design is an airy and clean design .

3. FORGET THE LINKS TO YOUR SOCIAL NETWORKS

The social network will pair with your blog and allow your readers to be informed about new articles, to have the information more or to know you better. Add the logos in a visible place, for example in the header or in the sidebar, this will quickly indicate the networks on which you are present as well as your links and / or nicknames.

4. COPY / PASTE AND DO NOT CITE THE SOURCES

First, I advise you to create your content 100% . But it is not prohibited (unless mentioned by the author or after requesting permission) to use images and passages of content as long as you cite the source . Not to do so is to plagiarize  and  it is a lack of honesty towards your readers who will perhaps realize it and will not come back to read you again.

5. IGNORING THE LINKS

Whether it is internal links ie to your old articles or to another site, it is very important to highlight them . If your links merge with your text, your readers may not know that you are linking to other content. I also advise you to always open the links in a new tab . This allows your reader not to lose the page he was on and above all to stay on your blog.

6. DO NOT CREATE MENU AND CATEGORIES

The menu is a bit like the search bar, it allows you to navigate and understand the organization of your blog . Beforehand we think of grouping its articles in categories which will then be listed in your menu.

7. PUT A MUSICAL BACKGROUND

This mistake makes me laugh a lot because in the days of skyblogs I was making it. You should not “impose” your music on your readers because this can make them leave your blog very quickly, especially if there is no possibility to mute the sound. You can of course offer your song of the moment in the sidebar or the footer, but it should not be read automatically and at the choice of the visitor.

8. INSTALL A THEME WITHOUT CUSTOMIZING IT

What could be more annoying that someone else used the same theme as you ? At the same time, those available on the Internet are offered and open to everyone . When you install a theme, the ideal is to be able to customize it to a point that it is hardly recognizable.

9. DO NOT RESPOND TO COMMENTS

If you are lucky enough to have readers who take the time to leave you a little trace of their passage or a question, the least you can do is answer them. In addition to giving an interactive and lively dimension to your blog, it shows that you are accessible and present.

10. NEGLECTING SEO

To put it simply, SEO is your place in Google. To have more and more visits , it is super important to put the odds in your favor. To do this, try putting keywords  in your title, personalizing the url and adding descriptions to your images . I think I will do a full article on this very soon because there are a lot of little things to know😉 There you go, I hope you enjoyed this article and that you don't already make some of these little mistakes 🙂! See you soon.
